Clermont County ESC strives to maintain mandatory security updates on devices such as Macs, PCs, and iOS (iPads) devices across the entire network.

To accomplish this task CCESC employs the use of the MDM Suite to manage devices throughout the network to ensure compliance.

Windows/MacOS Experience

**Note Windows and MacOS devices share very similar end-user experiences, thus we show the Windows experience.

1.) Filewave checks for running programs.

  • Ensure your device is plugged into power - (A.Your device will install updates faster. B.  Your laptop battery will charge during this process).
  • If you happen to leave any open applications running Filewave will show the following screen as seen below and please click "Quit All" button.  Then click on the "Start Installation" button to begin installation immediately.

2.) Filewave Installer begins

Please exercise patience! Start it when you have time to walk away.

The filewave installer will be complete. Never interrupt it.  How long an installation takes depends on how many updates are necessary to bring your workstation into compliance.  Over time this should get faster on each workstation as fewer updates will be required after the initial compliance check of the device.

3.) The Computer may reboot multiple times during the installation process if necessary.

iOS/iPad Experience

** Ensure that you have your iPad plugged into power and at least have 60% battery.

2.) Tap General

3.) Tap Software Update

4.) Tap Download and Install

Select Install Now.

FAQ

Question #1 - Can you delay the updating process?  Yes, when prompted for the update use the "Delay" button and specify the allowable time interval (Up to 2 Hours).

Question #2- What happens if I am out on this day or my device isn't turned on?  Your device will check in immediately when connected to the internet/network and prompt the next time it is powered on.

Question #3- Should I plug my computer into power?  Yes.  This allows your computer to maintain charge and also allows your computer to process updates at a quicker rate.

Question #4- How long will the update take to apply/install?  The installation times depend on how many updates your devices are missing or are needed.  (If the green bar is scrolling - please do not interrupt).

Question #5 - What time are we releasing the updates for installation? - We will begin releasing the updates in the AM hours of 8-10 am (This time was chosen to ensure that devices were prompted multiple times throughout the day to ensure coverage).

Question #6 - Will I see the above same screens on my iPad or Chromebook?  - No. These devices are proprietary and updating these devices takes place in a different method.

Question #7 - Why did my co-workers' device prompt to install updates, but mine did not?  Each device communicates with a server back at the ESC to find out specifically what updates need to be disseminated to what devices.  It is possible that if two devices are side by side then they may not require the same updates.
